Morenci Turquoise Cabochon

Morenci turquoise originates from Greenlee County, Arizona. Morenci is the largest copper producer in North America and is owned by Canadian firm Freeport McMoRan. Morenci has been identified in prehistoric pieces, as the Native Americans mined small deposits of turquoise. The Morenci mine produced turquoise in beautiful blue colors, which varies from light to very dark blue. Morenci is a harder stone and often has a richer color than other Arizona turquoise. The matrix frequently consists of iron pyrite or “fool’s gold” and when polished, looks like silver.
